Up and coming uplift days at Rheola and Gethin. Both bikes and humans will be taken to the top of the mountain in coaches. A stripped out coach with less harsh suspension than a quarry lorries will be taking your bikes up. Please enter as early as possible to avoid disappointment and give us time to arrange enough transport. Entries may close early once one coach is full, unless we get enough to break even on second coach.

We are currently looking for people who would like to help take responsibility of their local track. The WDMBA currently Manages Rheola, Gethin and Mountain Ash for the Forestry Commission.

What we want, is Groups of about 6 people, with one trail leader. The trail leader will be in charge of the building activities and arranging the meetings. The WDMBA has insurance and permission to build on FC land so you wont see your work torn down!

The FC currently has some funding so we are hoping that we will be able to develop the tracks more.

WHY DIG???

1. Dig crews will have free entries to uplift days at their track- it’s only fair!!

2. Digging is great training and gives you a great insight into lines and how tracks run.

3. It’s really satisfying to see your work being raced by the top Elite riders, and especially to ride yourself!

4. If your doing doing DoE award it can count as an element, If your unemployed, or even if you aren’t, voluntary work looks great on your CV!

5. Just remember, building requires riding! So one of the tools you’ll need to bring is your bike! You build it, you ride it!

Spaces are going to be limited for this date due to the BDS racing there the following week… This will be an ideal opportunity for anyone racing the BDS to get some much needed practice in, as there has not been an event held on the newly cut track yet..

The track has had a lot of work done to it lately so with a bit of luck (good weather) it should be riding nice…

The WDMBA boyos.

I have been informed today, by the FC ranger, that he came across a vehicle that was uplifting bikes at Rheola. When asked, the people in question reported that they were working for the WDMBA, on it’s trail building program. This clearly wasn’t the case as all digging activities are arranged by myself and ONLY myself-there is no trail building to be carried out under ANY circumstances, unless under prior agreement by the WDMBA and it’s agreement with the Forestry Commission!

I would like to remind everyone that accessing FC land without permission is illegal! The WDMBA has special permission to access the land and does so under very strict rules! Therefore, anyone caught with a motorised vehicle on FC ground, will have their presence reported to the police and will be banned from all associated WDMBA events!

We cannot risk loosing our right to access FC ground and therefore take these matters VERY seriously! This is a warning to those in the forrest and to anyone planing on uplifting! If those who were in the forest would like to own up then we would appreciate it, but any further incidents will be dealt with severely!

With the upcoming race series nearing, and the condition of a few tracks in need of some graft, the WDMBA are organising a few dig/maintenance days.

The tracks and dates are as follows:

• Rheola – 30th January
• Gethin – 27th February

Obviously, the success of a series is dependant on its venues so we would appreciate your help on these dig days.. it would be nice to see some new faces coming along lend a hand to the usual hard working dig crew!
